Research Scientist

 

Position Summary

 

The Research Scientist will perform a critical role in executing the pre-clinical and translational strategy for the Company. Key functions will include design, coordination, and execution of various in vitro monitoring/characterization assays for monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), and the development of suitable formulations for inhaled delivery of mAbs. In addition, the role will interface with other development teams as they relate to the company wet-lab activities designed to catalyze and support multiple drug candidate development.

Inhalon is a clinical-stage, inhaled immunotherapy company developing prophylactic and therapeutic antibodies (mAb) for acute respiratory infections. Inhalon has a patented, proprietary muco-trapping mAb platform technology with broad IP coverage of inhaled mAb delivery. In addition to working on treatments and preventative measures for COVID-19, Inhalon is currently advancing the development of inhaled mAbs against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), metapneumovirus (MPV), and influenza. Inhalon is headquartered in Morrisville, NC.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

The Research Scientist must have excellent communications skills and possess the ability to communicate results to internal stakeholders with varying degrees of scientific background, as well as the time-management skills to work on multiple projects in parallel.

 

  • Be a team-player who can successfully interface with Development (CMC, Regulatory, Clinical) and Discovery/Research groups, displaying effective organization and communication skills.

  • Design and execute well-controlled experiments, and organize data for development studies with appropriate scientific and managerial oversight.

  • Establish an operational knowledge for key methodologies for antibody characterization.

  • Developing and maintaining cell lines for analytical characterization (e.g., creating & maintaining cell bank, growth & testing).

  • Support fit-for-purpose assays and studies associated with inhalation technology and characterization.

  • Develop and automate immunological and mucosal functional assays to demonstrate antiviral activity of company assets.

  • Collect and analyze data maintaining good documentation and notebooking skills. 

  • Prepare data for technical reports, publications, and grants.

  • Interact with multiple colleagues in a dynamic environment. Be willing to take on new projects outside the ‘normal’ course of business. Be highly motivated.

 

Qualifications/Requirements

 

  • 3+ years in pharmaceutical/biotech environment. Experience with immunology, molecular biology, mAb production/characterization, virology, and/or inhalation drug delivery is strongly preferred.

  • The successful candidate should have significant hands-on laboratory experience in the following fields: bioanalysis (e.g., ELISA, assays of antiviral function and aerosol characterization), cell-based assays.

  • Experience in automation (use of robotic instruments) or inhaled product development is advantageous.

  • A successful candidate must possess attention to detail, organizational, interpersonal, communication skills, strong sense of responsibility, and demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • She/he must have the ability to perform several tasks simultaneously to meet critical deadlines.

  • Candidate must be self-motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced dynamic biotech environment where flexibility, tolerability to rapid change, and drive to make a significant impact is essential.
